Colorado Flood Threat
[The following is a press release from the Colorado Water Conservation Board]
— Flooding is NOT expected today
There’s plenty of sun out this morning thanks to upper-level high pressure moving in from the west. Northerly mid-level flow has ushered in drier air aloft, and PW values are down from yesterday as expected with a reading of 0.54 inches at Grand Junction. Daytime heating should provide weak lift over higher terrain areas, and there’s enough moisture around for a few clouds to form this afternoon. Weak instability over the San Juans may support somewhat deeper convection leading to a low chance for a few showers and thunderstorms around the Continental Divide this afternoon. It’s otherwise looking like a spectacular weather day with seasonable temperatures and a light to moderate breeze.
Zone-Specific Forecasts:
San Juan Mountains:
Scattered clouds likely forming by early afternoon with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible. Isolated maximum 30-minute/1-hour rain amounts of 0.30/0.45 inches are possible. Flooding is NOT expected.
Prime time: 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Northwest Slope, Northern Mountains, Grand Valley, Central Mountains, Southwest Slope & San Luis Valley:
A few afternoon clouds are possible over the higher peaks, otherwise sunny and pleasant with temperatures close to average
Front Range, Urban Corridor, Northeast Plains, Palmer Ridge, Southeast Mountains, Raton Ridge & Southeast Plains:
A few afternoon clouds are possible over the higher peaks, otherwise sunny and pleasant with afternoon temperatures in the 60s°F (mountains) to 80s°F (Urban Corridor and eastern Plains).
